There’s a funicular right next to the Hotel Macdonald downtown that leads to a 20-metre high architectural cantilevered lookout facing the North Saskatchewan River. Very fine! Check out the landscaped greenery and walking paths at the river valley bottom with sculptures by artist Jill Anholt. From there you can connect to Edmonton's extensive river valley trail system and walk or bike to wherever you're heading next.

*Note that getting stuck in the moving glass box on rails has proven to be the one of the most Edmonton things you can do - consider taking the stairs right next to the tracks instead!
